1. What is Schmatzee?
Schmatzee is a game of chance... played with cyber-dice and a cyber-scorecard. Think of it as poker with dice and a scorecard, but no chips or betting. You can play it alone (online or offline) or with a group (online only). Schmatzee's predecessor is Guess-A-Sketch (or GAS), who donated it's guts to help get Schmatzee off the ground. If you've played GAS before, you will notice a few similarities between the two games.

1. How do I play it?
The game play of Schmatzee is very similar to a well know board game by a similar name... You will get 13 turns in which you roll the dice no more than 3 times. Each time you roll the dice, you have the option of setting aside (locking) any of the dice that you want to keep (or not roll again). You have a score card with blanks for every die combination needed to score points. You MUST score the result of your three rolls each turn, even if it means taking zero points in a box. Once you roll your die three times, and score the result, control of the dice moves to the next player who does the same. This continues until all the boxes are filled on every players card, at which time the total for each player is added up and compared. The winner is the payer with the highest total score.

3. How do I Download and Install?
You can grab the latest version from the Schmatzee Download page.  The server checks the client version number and will direct you back here if you have a version mismatch.  After downloading, simply run the self-installer.  This will prompt you for a location to install Schmatzee, as well as other install options.  We have Cheeto to thank for the super easy Schmatzee self-installer… thanks Cheeto!!

How do I find a game?
Schmatzee is pre-configured to connect with my default server.  This is currently the only server, and it runs 24/7.  In case your Schm_cfg.tcl file gets lost, here is the info you need to join:

Sever (ip:port):  www.schmatzee.com:6050
ServerPass:  ROLL

How do I join a game?
To join a game, double-click on Schmatzee.exe, select Preferences from the Options menu and enter the server information and your nickname (be sure to hit enter after updating any fields in the Preferences window).  Close the preferences window, select Join Game from the connect menu and you should see your name show up in the users list and a server message about adding your name to the Users list.

How do I roll, change my text color, score, etc?
For all the specifics on these and other tools and functions of Schmatzee, see the Schmatzee Usage page.

What are the rules... how do I play?
The rules for playing Schmatzee can be found on the Schmatzee Usage page.

Can I vote to kick an obnoxious player?
New client vote kick feature, majority rules.  If a majority isn't reached within 30 seconds, the vote to kick fails.  To initiate a vote to kick, type this:    /kick playerName
Where playerName is the name of the player you wish to kick.  This will pop up a window for you to cast your vote. There can only be one kick vote at a time and a word list vote will have to wait for the kick vote to complete since they use the same buttons (see next item).

Do you want feedback, suggestions, bug reports?
Most definitely!  In fact, I'm starving for input!  I want Schmatzee to be fun for everyone!  Please use the Schmatzee forum for feedback, ideas, bugs, problems, suggestions or just to hang out and build a sense of Schmatzee community.  Some things will be easy to change, others impossible (well at least for me), so please understand if I can't incorporate everything.

Can I help develop Schmatzee?
I have always wanted a team of people working on Schmatzee, but have found few people who were interested. By now the code is SO messy I doubt anybody else could make heads or tails of it. However, if you have some great ideas, and you can cut and paste.... maybe we can take Schmatzee further.

Can I run a Schmatzee server?
To date I have not made the server available.  It is not in any shape for public consumption.  I have run private servers for groups who are looking for a closed game… so if this is what your looking for, drop me a note.  Perhaps someday the server will be up to snuff and I’ll make it available… but for now, sorry, it’s not.

Do you have any animated banners for Schmatzee?
Not yet... but maybe you can use these banners for Guess-A-Sketch until I get some Schmatzee ones done.

Click to view GAS animated banners (approx. 217kb)
Download all banners in Zip file. (approx. 213kb)

Can I send you some money?
No... but if you're feeling particularly generous, I would encourage you to consider sponsoring a needy child.  What's small change to you could mean life or death to someone's son, daughter, brother or sister!  If you don't have any spare money, you can volunteer your time at the local hospital visiting terminally ill children or the elderly.  World Vision
